With projects based on SDN technology, highstreet technologies and MicroNova plan to help the major mobile network operators (MNOs) to further optimize the configuration and operation of their networks. In this context, MicroNova is already involved in the "Open SDN & NFV Lab" (OSNL) in Berlin. The OSNL is also associated with the 5G Berlin e. V. innovation cluster, of which MicroNova is a founding member.
“Through the partnership with highstreet technologies and the OSNL, we have been able to already expanded our Telco Solutions product portfolio with COM5.SDN Mediator, including some powerful capabilities for Software-Defined Networks. Through the long-term COM5.SDN product strategy, MicroNova is able to offer mobile network operators, and especially in the new market segment of campus networks fueled by 5G, an end-to-end SDN solution including corresponding consulting services," explains Ingo Bauer, Head of Product Management Telecommunications at MicroNova AG.
Open-Source Ecosystem for 5G Use Cases
The mentioned OSNL has a powerful infrastructure and an ecosystem based on open source, the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP). This allows the development, testing and integration of SDN/NFV applications. As a result, highstreet technologies and MicroNova can map complete, end-to-end use cases for 5G for MNOs - from the implementation of proof of concepts and the realization of research projects to the development of commercial carrier-grade solutions.
"From the smart city to networked vehicles, the range of 5G applications appears to be endless," explains Alfons Mittermeier, Managing Director of highstreet technologies GmbH. "Our team has extensive expertise in dedicated wireless technologies. In combination with MicroNova's long-standing history in the mobile communications environment, we will be able to jointly offer comprehensive end-to-end solutions, including training and support."
Supporting New Business Models for Mobile Network Operators
"For quite a while now, our companies have been embarking on a common journey for some projects and customers," says Dr. Klaus Eder, CEO of MicroNova AG. "We are now further formalizing and strengthening this partnership, both technologically and in terms of sales. We see an opportunity to jointly offer mobile communications companies in the 5G environment significant added value, for example in the areas of consulting for engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning or in the integration of services. Ultimately, we are helping MNOs to offer new services to their end customers and enable new business models.”
